First, dealing with stress is all about taking charge and responsibility for everything that happens in your life.
In many cases, stressed people don’t feel like they have the control over their professional or personal life. They see themselves as victims of their situations and circumstances.
The first step is to identify the source of stress in your life, the true one!
You can’t be as generic as “my job”. What is it in your job that stresses you? The attitude of your boss? Your e-mail inbox? It can be everything, just take the time to identify what it is. It’s the most crucial step in getting out of this living hell.
Next, do you blame other for you stress level? Do you feel like a victim?
Well, I’ve got news for you! You are the one who is responsible for your stress. Whether it is the way you see things or the things you decide what you do, it is your fault. That might be cruel to be told, but until you’ve accepted that, there’s nothing you can do about your stress.
Start a stress journal
A stress journal will help you identify what stresses you on a regular basis.
Write down:
- What are the causes of you stress today
- How you feel about it
- What you did to fix the situation and make you feel better
Now, it’s time to act upon what you’ve learned.
Sadly, there isn’t one magical recipe because everyone has a unique response to stress. But, be sure that if you see that your way of fixing the situation causes you health, professional, or personal problem, it might be time to reconsider your habits.
Here are 6 easy ways of managing stress
- Avoid it: Some stressors can be avoided. Learn to say “no” to them. Distinguish “musts” from “should”
- Alter it: There must be something you can change so the situation won’t present itself again. Be willing to make compromise, especially with people.
- Adapt to it: Try to see things with a more positive point of view. Find alternatives in your behaviour. Look at the big picture: how does the stressor fit into the whole and how do you fit into the whole?
- Accept: There will be things you won’t be able to change. Don’t try to control uncontrollable. Focus on what you can control. Try to look at the upside. Does this situation bring you something? Tell other people about what you feel and learn to forgive the world for its imperfections
- Make time for fun! : You need balance in your life. Make time for leisure and activities with friends and your family. Actually, it would be a good idea to schedule your leisure time so you won’t feel guilty about relaxing.
- Keep a healthy lifestyle: Exercise, eat a healthy diet, reduce caffeine and sugar, avoid alcohol, cigarettes and drugs, and get enough sleep.
In conclusion, remember that you chose everything in your life and that you can do something to change what you don’t like. If you can’t change it, alter it, adapt to it, or simply accept it. It’s all about how you decide to act upon your situation.
And remember to keep a healthy lifestyle!
